Chemical Peels

Skin feeling a bit blah lately? Don’t know what to do? Time to pull out the BIG guns. Come on in for a Chemical Peel.

This is our most requested service because it is the most effective treatment to address the most common skin conditions including, pre-mature aging and acne.

In our youth, skin cells naturally turn-over every 18 to 20 days resulting in a healthy, vibrant look. As we age this process slows down giving us a dull, chalky appearance. Chemical Peels stimulate cell turn-over to give back that radiant look we remember.

If you are experiencing acne from high bacteria levels or from hormonal skin, chemical peels are an excellent way to correct these conditions.

With over 10 different formulations, our medical Aesthetician will customize a peel to effectively treat your skin. Chemical Peels are one of the most effective and affordable ways to turn back the hands of time.

A chemical peel is a technique used to improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck or hands. A chemical solution is applied to the skin that causes it to exfoliate and eventually peel off. The new, regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin. The new skin is also temporarily more sensitive to the sun. There are three basic types of chemical peels:

Superficial or lunchtime peel: Alpha-hydroxy acid or another mild acid is used to penetrate only the outer layer of skin to gently exfoliate it. The treatment is used to improve the appearance of mild skin discoloration and rough skin as well as to refresh the face, neck, chest or hands.

Medium peel: Glycolic or trichloroacetic acid is applied to penetrate the out and middle layers of skin to remove damaged skin cells. The treatment is used to improve age spots, fine lines and wrinkles, freckles and moderate skin discoloration. It also can be used to smooth rough skin and treat some precancerous skin growths, i.e. actinic keratosis.

Deep peel: Tricholoracetic acid or phenol is applied to deeply penetrate the middle layer of skin to remove damaged skin cells. The treatment removes moderate lines, age spots, freckles and shallow scars. Patients will see a dramatic improvement in skin appearance. The procedure is used on the face and only can be performed once.

Medical Peels

There is a large difference between salon facial peels and medical peels.  Medical grade chemical peels allow for a higher percentage of concentration of acid and at a PH level that can actually reach the dermal junction (where the epidermal layer meets the dermis) to be able to actually receive the benefits associated with these types of treatments.

There are different types of acids that are used for chemical peels, each are effective in different ways depending upon your skin conditions to be corrected.

Progressive Peel

This refers to a treatment that does not usually cause immediate exfoliation and only removes the outer layer of skin or the stratum corneum.  As treatments are repeated, the skin will experience a mild sloughing.

Mid Depth Peel

These peels affect the intra-epidermal layer, and exfoliation occurs within two to three days after application.  The skin goes through very little down time.  Peeling consists of light flaking similar to a sunburn peel.

Deep Peel

These peels affect the deepest intra-epidermal layers.  The skin becomes brown and crusty then undergoes considerable peeling, which occurs three to four days after application.  The skin peels in large segments as opposed to flaking.  The entire process takes about seven to ten days.

The Obagi Blue Radiance

Lactic Acid is found in milk, but more importantly in muscle tissue after exercise during a process known as anaerobic respiration.   Ancient Egyptians have used it.  The Lactic Acid exfoliates the epidermis and promotes the growth of healthy, full and firm skin. Lactic Acid Peels are beneficial for mild acne scars, discoloration of all skin types, hyperpigmentation, age spots and uneven skin tone.
